Eyre Square

Eyre Square is known as the heart of Galway City. 

Its name.

It was named after the Honorary John Eyre, who was basically assigned to keep the peace by the British who governed Galway at the time.

What is it?

It is the name of a piece of ground and the addresses of homes and businesses surrounding it.

Ceannt Station is the main train depot, and is at the "bottom" or southern end of the Eyre Square.

During summer months, locals and tourists can be seen hanging around and taking in the sights, while during nightime; its local pubs, take-aways, taxi rank, and hotels continue to attract people of all ages and creeds.

The statue of Padraic O Conaire used to be seated there, but has since taken up residence in County Hall, Prospect Hill, which outbound in an easterly direction.
