Galway Harbour Enterprise Park is between the city Docks and Liam Mellows Army barracks in Renmore. Some of this land has been reclaimed from the sea, while the rest was existing and fairly marshy- type land. That is to say, that it had occasional and jutting rocks, pockets of water, some soil and grass . Recent HistoryIt was known by the locals of Galway as "The Isolation". This was due to the fact that an isolation or fever dedicated hospital used to exist there. Of course, it catered for unknown illnesses, as well as T.B. ( Tuberculosis ) and more common ones. Unknown and sometimes exotic illnesses would be typical enough where one is close to a marine port / docks and where various bugs may migrate on human and animal hosts. Access was underneath the railway line (and from the Lough Atalia side of Renmore), where a fine limestone arch still exists and still lends support to the rail line above it. LocationIt is accessed by heading over the relatively new bridge, and heading in a Renmore direction. The bridge is close to the fish and seafood processing company; Galway Bay Seafoods. |
